Licensing is the means by which the quality and integrity of the engineering profession is maintained. Licensure helps keep engineers accountable.

Any industry that has a direct impact on the health and well being of the lay public has a duty to be responsible to safeguard the public. Practicing engineering requires a license to ensure that the practitioners are performing to the standard of care for the industry.

Licensure is a good check that a person has been educated in the profession, understands the ethical requirements of the industry and continues to be educated in new technologies/methods. Licenses are necessary to provide a minimum level of safety to the public.

Having a license shows the individual has the skills needed to perform their engineering duties.

Engineers are important stewards of our infrastructure. Safety protocol and design standards need to be followed. It is important that engineers be licensed and it is the first step to making sure our infrastructure is built to standards and follow safety requirements.
